On 5 August 2026, Dumelo performed the sod-cutting ceremony for the new school. He has described the facility as a community day Senior High School that will be fully funded by him and a group of friends. Community members and some organisations have already started contributing materials such as sandstone, cement, iron rods, and cash.

According to Dumelo, the school is being built “for the community by the community.” Workers on the project will come from the constituency, and the school is intended to serve students from the area. He has set an ambitious nine-month completion target, with the goal of admitting the first batch of students by September 2027.

The completed school is expected to include a library, a science laboratory, and other modern facilities. There was some online speculation that the school might be a private institution. On 11 August 2026, Dumelo addressed the claims directly on X (formerly Twitter). He stated clearly:

“Correction, the new SHS I am building is for the community. It will be handed over to GES to run as a public school. The only returns I am getting is educating the kids in the commute. That’s the aim.”

This confirmation means the school will become a public institution under the Ghana Education Service once completed.

Dumelo has explained that Ayawaso West Wuogon currently has limited secondary school options. The existing STEM-focused school does not fully meet the broader educational needs of the constituency. His stated vision is to make Ayawaso West Wuogon “a one-stop constituency when it comes to education.”

This project fits into a wider pattern of education-focused interventions he has supported since becoming MP. These include earlier classroom block construction, support for school feeding caterers, and assistance to first-year SHS students with provisions and pocket money.

As of mid-August 2026, the project is in its early stages following the sod-cutting. Construction is expected to move quickly given the nine-month timeline Dumelo has publicly committed to. Progress will be closely watched by residents, given the scale of the investment and the personal nature of the funding.

The initiative has been welcomed by many in the constituency as a practical step toward expanding access to quality secondary education. At the same time, some observers have noted that delivering a full senior high school within nine months will require consistent funding, efficient project management, and strong coordination with the relevant education authorities.

John Dumelo’s decision to personally fund and drive the construction of a public senior high school remains one of the more notable constituency-level education projects currently underway in Greater Accra.
